About Us at TEAM-K9
TEAM-K9 is a dog training company, founded and operated by Glen Ramcharan of Mississauga ON, which specializes in puppy training, dog obedience training, and working dog training. Glen’s passion for dog training began at a young age when he introduced his own concept of dog training to his first dog, a pit bull named Jerry. The foundation of TEAM-K9 dog training started with an intensive investigation of the dog mind. Growing up in a Caribbean island, Glen observed local dogs that lived without owners, handlers, leashes, housing, and at times food. Through observation, Glen had discovered the most basic elements of dog mentality.
He witnessed what these dogs had to do to survive on the streets and observed pack formation, hunting, clear establishment of hierarchy and communication for all pack members, as well as the energy and vitality of each individual member in a group and how each contributes to group dynamics. The realization of our limited understanding of these animals fuelled Glen to develop a dog training method to allow the integration of a dog’s world into the world of people.
Glen began hosting dog training workshops in Mississauga and flew in renowned dog trainers from the dog training community in Germany. Quickly, Glen developed a community of dog training enthusiasts that included sport dog trainers, eager pet owners. Glen’s dog training work began with Pit Bulls and German Shepherd dogs, breeds known for their intelligence, intensity, determination, versatility, and their ability to handle stress and environmental changes. For Glen, dog training leisure blossomed into a dog training lifestyle after addressing many issues in neighbourhood dogs by local demand. Through past research and experimentation, Glen has been fortunate enough to see just how universal dog language is. With every new dog training issue that requires resolution, there is always a familiar case in mind.
Our Mindset
Like the individual, every dog is unique and has different learning styles or drives. To accommodate for the variability between and within breeds, TEAM-K9 offers personalized dog training that is uniquely tailored for you and your dog. TEAM-K9 understands the differences between a purpose-built dog and a household pet. Working dogs are bred for their extreme drives in tracking, personal protection, herding, and similar applications. The problem is that a lot of these types of dogs are becoming household pets while retaining their energy to work and please, and that the average pet owner doesn’t know how to manage or work with these dogs. High drive needs to be channelled and directed through exercise, and the incorporation of discipline established at TEAM-K9 dog training using communication, contact, reinforcement, and engagement.
In puppies, dog training can establish boundaries and limits to your puppy, and can shape a lot of behaviours that can be issues at a later age, as well as creating a mutual relationship for you and your pup to enjoy for a lifetime. Training an older dog, however, requires a different methodology as it necessitates teaching a dog with an attitude the discipline and self-control that was previously never asked or expected of them. This approach requires a change in the dog’s philosophy and an introduction to a more balanced lifestyle. At TEAM-K9 dog training, we strive for results and the mutual love and respect that dogs and their handlers should have for each other.
